Tennis Manitoba announces board members for 2014


At its Annual General Meeting recently held on February 22nd, Tennis Manitoba welcomed back three board members who will be returning to serve a second term. They are:
  • Hugh Hull
  • Mohamed Ismath
  • Lillian Wong.

Board members currently serving a second year of a two year term are:
  • Marni Miller
  • David Scrapneck
  • Bruce Waschuk
  • Glen Ziprick.

The board of directors is responsible for leading the administration and governance of Tennis Manitoba for a combination of one and two year terms. At the next board meeting, the directors will appoint an executive as well as committee chairs. Tennis Manitoba is actively seeking more volunteers to get involved at a committee level. Please contact Tennis Manitoba if you are interested in helping out with one of these areas:

The Community Development committee implements programs aimed at attracting new players to the sport. This includes the schools program, Building Tennis Communities initiative and parks and recreation programs.

The Competitive Structures committee oversees the sanctioned tournament schedule, officiating programs, rankings, and leagues.

The Player Development committee (formerly High Performance) deals with issues pertaining to junior and senior nationals, Canada Summer Games, provincial team programs, and coaching development.

The Resource Development committee plans communications and fundraising strategies to promote tennis in Manitoba. This includes the website, newsletters, magazines, and sponsorship programs.

Kids Dental & Ravenscourt Junior Open


The Kids Dental & Ravenscourt Junior Open recently held at the Winnipeg Winter Club successfully kicked off the 2014 Tennis Manitoba Junior Tour, which is aimed at junior tennis players 18 years of age and younger. The tournament is a national qualifying event for players residing in Manitoba and also provides national ranking points for those players residing in Canada.

The singles champions were:

  • Sabrina Alano girls U12
  • Daniel Gharagozloo boys U14
  • Sabrina Alano girls U14
  • Cole Lacap boys U16
  • Jennifer Wang girls U16
  • Cole Lacap boys U18

WLTC Seeking Tennis Pro

WLTC is seeking a Tennis Professional/ Assistant Manager.

Winnipeg Lawn Tennis Club (WLTC) in Winnipeg, Manitoba is seeking a Tennis Professional/ Assistant Manager to join their team.

WLTC is in search of a dynamic Tennis Professional/ Assistant Manager who has a proven track record of leading tennis programs and events for players at all ages. The Tennis Pro will develop instructional programs, leagues, ladders, and events to increase membership participation and enhance member experience.

WLTC is a non-profit sports organization founded to promote, develop and organize the game of tennis in Winnipeg. WLTC recently hosted the ITF pro circuit tournament, 2013 CIBC Wood Gundy Challenger. Again for 2014, WLTC will host the Women's Challenger and the Manshield Tennis Futures. As one of the longest running tennis clubs in Canada, WLTC has 11 courts and over 300 members.

Winter Club kicks off 2014 Rogers Rookie Tour


Join the fun at the Winnipeg Winter Club’s Rogers Rookie Tour, February 22-23

Goal: The goal of this tournament is to stress fundamentals and to introduce players in a positive way to tennis. A focus will on sportsmanship and fair play.

Participants: The participants should have the ability to rally 2 balls back over the net. If a player can do this he or she is ready for this tournament.

Format: The skills competition and tournament will be played on ½ court and ¾ court.

Dates / Times: Sat. Feb. 22 from 7-8:30 pm & Sun. Feb.23 from 8:30-11 am

Location: Winnipeg Winter Club, 200 River Avenue, Winnipeg, MB

Outline: Participants will training in friendly skill competitions Saturday night and at the start of the Sunday morning session. A Round Robin Tournament will follow. Matches will be based on time.

Cost: $40 (or $20 for just the Sunday portion)

Stuff: All participants will receive a t-shirt, a water bottle, gym bag and a certificate.
